[Girl has her back to the audience sobbing. She slowly turns around and picks up her journal. She starts writing and talking out loud]
I can't believe it. It can't be true. He wouldn't have - [pause and look up] Would he? [Keeps writing] He's not? He wouldn't have left me. Not like that - not like
[Breaks off and starts sobbing. She slowly regains composure and brushes her tears away. Looks back out to audience]
I suppose it's my fault. It must be my fault. I must have done something. Maybe I should have spent more time. I shouldn't have trusted him, if I hadn't trusted him, I wouldn't be in this predicament.
[Pauses, shakes her head, and brushes a tear away]
This is so pathetic. It happened [Pause] Tuesday. It's now um? [Bewildered] I don't even know what day it is! It wasn't supposed to end like this. [Quieter] It wasn't supposed to end. Or at least not now.
[Stares down at floor. Couple of "minutes" later, the phone rings. She slowly walks over to it, stares it down a few seconds, and finally answers it.]
Hello? I don't understand. Why? Why now? I know [Breaks off] What? No! I'm not okay! Give me a second, okay?
[Puts phone down, walks in center stage, pissed and in sorrow at same time]
Okay? I'm supposed to be okay! My world has ended! There's no reason to live anymore. And they expect me to be okay?
[Shakes her head while looking distraught. Turns slightly and sees phone hanging off the table. Heads back to it, picks it up]
Sorry. Yes. I have it with me. You want me to read it to you. Okay.
[Pulls a small paper out and reads it]
Taylor Dawson, age sixteen, was found dead in his house yesterday, Friday the thirteenth. His suicide note was found lying beside him, saying he was sorry and that he loved his family and girlfriend. Reason is unknown. [Pause] He... he left me a private note [She flips the page] Callie, when you get this it will be too late. I'm really sorry. I can't tell you why, but this had to be done. I'm so sorry. Tell mom that I want you to have my necklace. I'm sorry. I love you. Later. [Pause] Yeah. I'm... I'm... I have to go.
[Hangs up, sinks to the floor, and starts crying. She looks up]
He never would say goodbye. He always said goodbye is forever. Maybe he's right. Goodbye is forever. [Starts crying. Lights go out]
